Background
It is costly to build recreational facilities in forest areas.  The “Open forest” (Opinn skógur) project aims at making forests areas accessible to the general public.  The project is initiated by the Icelandic Forestry Association, being a country wide network of 60 local forest societies.  In the Open forest project the forest societies collaborate with private corporations to open the forests and build recreational facilities for the public.
Description
The Open forest project seeks to establish collaboration between forest owners and private enterprises.  The forest owners are local forest societies, being groups of forest enthusiasts in a given area. The private enterprises provide funding to the respective area.  The Open forest collaboration facilitates open their forest for the public and to construct the necessary recreational facilities to meet the demands of the visitors. The company can use the projects logo and the companies logo will be made explicit in the forest area.
